The Group was founded in 1974 by a small group of members of the Stubbington Holy Rood Church, with the inaugural investiture of Cub Scouts taking place on the 24th March 1974. The Scout Troop began in October the same year with their first investiture on the 18th December.
The Group from its inception has been sponsored by Holy Rood Church, hence the wording on our name tab. Links with the Church have been maintained throughout, with regular parades at both Holy Rood and St Edmund's Church.
In 1985 The Venture Unit was formed and two years later in 1987 the Beaver Colony started. Our Headquarters was in the Link Hut behind the church. Then after much fund raising we moved into our present headquarters in Titchfield Road on the 28th April 1990. With this occupation came the chance to expand and a second cub pack started.
In 2002, in line with the Scout Association restructuring, the Venture Unit was disbanded to be replaced by the District Explorer Unit. Starting with thirteen cubs scouts in 1974 the group has continued to expand and currently has over one hundred members.

The aim of the Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. The method of achieving the Aim of the association is by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training based on the Scout Promise and Law and guided by adult leadership.
